Description
"It Floats" This comic imagery was originally featured on postcards from the early 20th century.
This gag photo was photographed at Lake Hopatcong by local photographer William J. Harris in 1906. The photo was a setup, notice the ropes around the ankles to hold in the stuffing used to give the model a 'zofftig' appearance.
One of the trademarks of W.J. Harris were his humor and novelty postcards. Vacation time at Lake Hopatcong encouraged people to loosen up a little and laugh, and humorous scenes were in high demand to send back to friends in the cities.
There are 4 version of this image available for purchase:
Version 1: The original image as it appeared on postcards in 1906 with the words “Lake Hopatcong” and “It Floats” printed on the image.
Version 2: The words “It Floats” have been removed. The words “Lake Hopatcong” remain.
Version 3: The words “Lake Hopatcong” have been removed. The words “It Floats” remain.
Version 4: All the words have been removed leaving just the image as it was photographed.
This is a new derivative work of the original image. The original image has been scanned, digitally repaired and enhanced by me to bring out it's detail, and to make the image look as it would have when it was new, back in the day.
Please note: "The Fine Art America" watermark in the corner of the image will not appear on your purchased order.
